Musical theatre has come to occupy an important place in Taiwan’s arts and cultural sector. As an art form that integrates music, drama, dance, and other modes of performance, it combines artistic integration with popular appeal. Musical theatre is also highly collaborative, bringing together professionals from different fields, including directors, composers, playwrights, performers, choreographers, and designers. Such collaboration facilitates exchange and co-creation across disciplines and contributes to the development and integration of Taiwan’s performing arts sector.

The Specialization Program of Musical Theatre Practical Training places practice at the core of its curriculum. Courses cover performance, movement, vocal techniques, rehearsal practice, directing, and production. The program aims to provide students with a foundation in the professional knowledge and skills required across the performing arts, while further developing their practical engagement with musical theatre and their creative capacities. It also encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and explores diverse possibilities for artistic innovation and practice.

The Specialization Program of Musical Theatre Theory and Application aims to deepen students’ understanding of musical theatre theory and develop their ability to apply this knowledge in professional contexts. While the Musical Theatre Practical Training program focuses primarily on stage performance and practical skills, this program emphasizes textual analysis, historical perspectives, contemporary developments, and adaptation and interpretation across different media.

The curriculum begins with foundational approaches to reading and analysing dramatic texts, and situates this study within the historical development of Western theatre and musical theatre. Building on this foundation, students engage with contemporary issues and innovative practices in musical theatre. The program also incorporates choreographic principles and approaches to adaptation, encouraging students to move beyond the role of critic and to develop perspectives as creators and adaptors. It aims to prepare versatile professionals for Taiwan’s performing arts sector who possess a strong foundation in the humanities, critical and aesthetic awareness, and practical skills in adaptation.

3.【The Specialization Program of Dance Practice in Musical Theatre】

Musical theatre is a performing art in which music serves as a central means of storytelling. Precision in musical execution and depth of interpretation are therefore essential to the quality of a performance. The Specialization Program of Musical Theatre Music Practice provides systematic musical training for students with a strong commitment to performance. Beginning with fundamental training in score reading and rhythm, students develop musical accuracy and sensitivity. Through four progressive levels of musical theatre vocal training, they further develop vocal technique, expressive range, and the ability to interpret character through song.

At a more advanced level, students extend their musical practice through interdisciplinary exploration of spoken and sung performance, as well as creative training in arranging. These experiences are designed to support their development from singers into musical interpreters and creators. By integrating music theory with stage practice, the program aims to prepare professional musical theatre practitioners with a high level of musicianship.

The Specialization Program of Arts Administration is designed to cultivate versatile arts managers who combine artistic literacy with practical expertise in the cultural and creative industries.

The curriculum begins with foundational studies in arts theory and aesthetics, and progresses to core areas including market analysis, industry practice, and resource integration. Through capstone courses involving project planning, implementation, and festival operations, students develop problem-solving abilities and project management skills in real-world professional contexts. The program aims to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice, preparing a new generation of arts administrators for Taiwan’s arts and cultural sector with international perspectives and practical experience.

6.【The EMI Specialization Program of Musical Theatre and International Performing Arts】

As the performing arts sector becomes increasingly globalized, there is growing demand for professionals with strong international communication skills and cross-cultural perspectives. The EMI Specialization Program of Musical Theatre and International Performing Arts is delivered entirely in English through English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), providing students with an international learning environment and opportunities to engage with contemporary developments in theatre worldwide.

The curriculum integrates theoretical inquiry with contemporary practice. It examines the development of musical theatre from Broadway to diverse global contexts, while also engaging with emerging areas such as postdramatic theatre, immersive technologies, and festival production. Through the study and discussion of international case studies, students develop the ability to conduct arts criticism, prepare proposals, and undertake creative work in an English-medium environment. The program aims to strengthen students’ capacity to participate professionally in the international arts and cultural sector.
